About the Major

Media and public affairs teaches you when and how to deploy traditional and new media tools to achieve the goals of communities, nonprofit organizations, or businesses. It is public relations for the nonprofit world. You will learn how to communicate with customers, constituents, employees, supporters, opponents, and others involved in shaping public policies. You will study an interdisciplinary mix of public affairs (e.g., government finance and budget, political action, and civic engagement), journalism, political science, informatics, and liberal arts.

Skills and abilities this major develops include: communication, public relations, strategic thinking, and critical thinking.
