Math Teaching

About the math teaching major

As a mathematics education major, you'll learn the methods of educating students from grades 5 through 12. Students pursuing this degree complete all the classes required for a mathematics major, including applied mathematics, statistics, and pure mathematics, in addition to education courses.

Mathematicians use mathematical theory, computational techniques, algorithms, and the latest computer technology to solve economic, scientific, engineering, physics, and business problems. Students will graduate with all the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in middle schools or high schools after passing state exams (School of Education, 2019).

Skills and abilities this major develops: cultural competency, teaching, problem solving, and quantitative.
