About the finance major

Finance majors help corporations sort out the complexities of their investment options and align them with their long-term goals. You'll learn how to create and to maintain wealth, as well as administer and manage money. You'll also study corporate finance, investments, and banking. Every business major will complete a broad base of general business courses. If you're interested in the real estate field, this major provides a track for specialization.

Opportunities after graduation

Employment of financial managers is projected to grow 17% from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 71,300 openings for financial managers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as retirement (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2022).

According to the IUPUI First Destination Survey in 2021, the average starting salary reported for finance B.S.B. graduates was $58,211, and the median salary was $56,000.

The national mean starting salary for business graduates who majored in finance was $59,627 for the class of May 2020, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE, 2022).
